Top 5 Worst Performing Jordan Grand Prix drivers

Top 5 Worst Performing Jordan Grand Prix drivers

To date, Jordan Grand Prix is the only Irish constructor that has ever entered in Formula 1.  Other than that this team is known for it’s creative, animal inspired paint schemes, being one of the Best Independent team entries of the 1990’s and early 2000’s, and for being the team that gave Michael Schumacher his first start in Formula 1.   Eddie Jordan’s team had many highs and lows before they sold off in 2005, but they were still a decent mid-level Formula 1 team.  However, they did have their fair share of bad drivers, and every driver on this list here only lasted 1 season with team, so it really wasn’t meant to be for them at Jordan Grand Prix

5.)  Nahrain Karthikeyan, 5 Total Points Scored, Finished 18th in the Final Championship Standings in 2005

Nahrain Karthikeyan made history in 2005 when he became the first Formula 1 driver from India.  In his only season with the team he scored only 5 points and that came from the highly controversial 2005 United States Grand Prix where only 6 cars started, and that’s really pathetic when you think about it.  You’ve pretty much got a podium spot gifted to you and you can’t even capitalize (though his teammate Tiago Monteiro did score a 3rd place).  After that he disappeared from Formula 1, ran a few NASCAR Truck Series races, was surprisingly voted the Most Popular Driver of the Truck Series in 2010 despite only running only 9 races and never finishing in the top 10.   Karthikeyan would return to Formula 1 in 2011 for a season and a half with the terribly performing Hispania Racing Team.

4.)  Nick Heidfeld, 3 Total Points Scored, Finished 18th in the Final Championship standings in 2004,

Nick Heidfeld, has the disconcerting honor of Most F1 podiums without a win, but thank goodness he had those moderate successes in the sport, because his one year at Jordan was a disaster.  He only scored 3 points that season with a best finish of 7th at the 2004 Monaco Grand Prix.

3.)  Ralph Firman, 1 Point Scored, Missed 2 Races due to injury, Finished 19th in the Final Points Standings

A lot of F1 teams show preference towards hiring a driver from their national Identity (Renault hired a lot of French Drivers, Ferrari and Minardi hired many Italian Drivers, etc), but Eddie Jordan only ever hired one Irish driver, Ralph Firman.   Firman missed 2 races in his only season at Jordan due to racing injury, but did manage to score a point at the 2003 Spanish Grand Prix.  To date, he is the last Irish driver to have run in Formula 1.

2.)  Stefano Modena, 1 Point Scored, Finished 17th in the Final Point Standings in 1992

Steafno Modena ran full time for Jordan Grand Prix in the teams 2nd season of existence, and well it was disappointing to say the least.  Modena scored the team’s only point, which was still a better result than his teammate.

1.)  Mauricio Gugelmin, 0 Points Scored, Best finish was 7th at the 1992 San Marino Grand Prix

Mauricio Gugelmin was Modena’s teammate in 1992 and he did not score a single point.   This was also Gugelmin’s final season in Formula 1 (after running 4 lackluster seasons with Leyton House/March Racing).
