Sportives drivers
A List by Brian Cotnoir
Just
so I don’t have to keep typing the official name of the team, I will just be
referring them as AGS. I honestly have
never even heard of this Formula 1 team till I came across them on Wikipedia
and decided to make them my latest entry for Top 5 Worst Performing
drivers. AGS was a French Formula 1
Constructor that ran from 1986-1991. In
a little over 4 seasons in Formula 1 the team entered 80 Grand Prix’s, but only
qualified for 32 of them. The team
started off pretty lackluster, and only got worst and worst as time went on. Most of the time the team only entered 1 car,
and was never going to be able to compete for wins or championships, and yet
despite all that the team actually managed to score championship points with
some of the most well-known grid
fillers; nonetheless they were one of the worst teams probably in the history
of Formula 1, and these are with no doubt their 5 Worst drivers.
5.) Phillipe
Streiff, 1 Season (1988), 0 Championship Point Scored, Best Finish of 8th
at the Japanese Grand Prix.
French driver Phillipe Streiff ran the team’s only
“successful” season in Formula
1. Despite not scoring any
championship points, Streiff qualified for all 16 races. Streiff’s season, however, was plagued with
race retirements, and he only finished 6 races that season. Streiff also ran a single car entry that year
for AGS. Streiff, unfortunately would be
injured in a pre-season test the following year and would end up as a
quadriplegic—thus bringing an end to his professional racing career.
4.) Pascal
Fabre, 1 Season (1987), 0 Championship Points Scored, Best Finish 9th (2X)
Pascal Fabre was AGS first full-time entry in
Formula 1. Like Phillipe Streiff he was
the only entrant for the team. Fabre,
was pretty consistent and only had one race retirement in his first 10
starts. However, he then failed to
qualify for 3-of-the-next-4 races and was let go from by the team with 2 races
left in the season. His replacement,
Roberto Moreno, would go on to score the team’s first ever championship point
at the final round in Australia. Fabre
never raced again in Formula 1 after that.
3.) Gabriele
Tarquini, 2.5 seasons, 1 Championship Point scored, Best Finish 6th
at the 1989 Mexican Grand Prix.
Italian driver Gabriele Tarquini spent 2.5 seasons
with AGS. Tarquini replaced the injured
Phillipe Streiff, and he scored the team’s final championship point when he
finished 6th place at the 1989 Mexican Grand Prix. It would be the only championship point
Tarquini scored in his career, which is impressive considering he failed to
qualify for 32-out-of-40 Grand Prix’s he entered for AGS. He made the teams last ever start at the 1991
Monaco Grand Prix.
2.) Yannick
Dalmas, 1.5 Seasons, 0 Championship Points Scored, Best Finish 9th
at the 1990 Spanish Grand Prix
Yannick Dalmas was a French race car driver who
only drove for Larousse and AGS in his F1 career. Dalmas never scored any championship points
in his F1 career. In 24 races entered
with the AGS team, Dalmas failed to qualify for 20 of them. His best finish with AGS was a 9th
at the 1990 Spanish Grand Prix.
Whats with the "?". Are we wondering how you had a F1 career? |
1.) Fabrizio
Barbazza, ¾ of a season, 0 Championship Points scored, No F1 Starts!
A former Indy Lights Champion, Fabrizio Barbazza
replaced Stefan Johansson after two rounds of the 1991 season. He entered 12 races for AGS that year…and
failed to qualify for every single one! This has to be one of the most disastrous F1
debuts in history. AGS would shut down
after he and Olivier Grouilliard (in a one race deal) failed to qualify for
that years Spanish Grand Prix. Barbazza
would have to wait over a year to get another shot in F1, driving for
Minardi. He scored his first and only
points in F1 with Minardi before being released from the team halfway through
the 1993 season.
