In Defense of Scott Wimmer

Image
In Defense Scott Wimmer By Brian H Cotnoir NASCAR driver Scott Wimmer at one time looked to be the next Cup Series superstar, but he is often regarded by many as a Cup Series Bust.  While his Cup Series can be summed up with three mediocre seasons with only one-career Top 5 finish, we can't let those three seasons sum up his entire NASCAR career, because at one time he was one of the hottest drivers in the NASCAR Grand National Series.  Unfortunately, for multiple reasons--some self-inflected--his NASCAR career got derailed. In 2001, Wimmer made his Grand National Series debut with Bill Davis Racing.  He finished runner-up in the Rookie Year Award and finished 11th in the final drivers' standings. Wimmer would have his breakout season in 2002 and went on a tear winning 4-of-the-final-8 races of the season, and finished 3rd in the final drivers' standings.  The following season he only managed one win at Pikes Peak International Raceway, and finished 9th in the final drive

5 People who you won't believe made starts in NASCAR

5 people who you won't believe made starts in NASCAR By Brian H Cotnoir NASCAR has had some surprise entrants in their sport.  Everyone from Formula 1 champions like Kimi Raikkonen to X-Games athletes, Travis Pastrana and Ricky Carmichael.  NFL coach Jerry Glanville also made sporadic starts in NASCAR's Xfinity and Truck Series while head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, as did Country Music Hall of Famer, Marty Robbins at the height of his music career.  However, there are some other well-known drivers who made starts in NASCAR that you may not have known.  Here are 5 drivers who you won't believe made starts in NASCAR. 1.) Eric Norris Sorry, the picture on the article was meant to be clickbait.  Hollywood Legend Chuck Norris has never made a start in NASCAR....but his son Eric has.    Eric Norris raced in the NASCAR Winston West (the Modern-Day ARCA Menards West Series) between 1998-2002.  During his career he won 3 career Winston West Races and was the Series Champion in 2

5 Things NASCAR is doing right

5 Things NASCAR is doing right By Brian H Cotnoir In 2018, I wrote an article titled "5 ways we can (hopefully) save NASCAR, which is still one of my most viewed and read articles to date.  I was very critical of many decisions NASCAR had been making, and thought there were so many things NASCAR could and should be doing to keep their core fanbase and recruit new fans to the sport, and while they have gone on to do some of the things, I thought they should do (investing and promoting developing drivers they already have instead of depending on beloved veterans & crossover superstars, and including more diversity in the sport) they have actually gone above in some cases and done things and done some things that have only improved the sport as a whole!  So here as a follow up are 5 things I think NASCAR is doing right! 1.)  The Charter System One of NASCAR's biggest flaws--in my opinion-- was determining field sizes.  At tracks like Martinsville, they'd run as few as 36

My Thoughts on the 2021 Abu Dahbi Grand Prix

My Thoughts on the 2021 Abu Dahbi Grand Prix By Brian H Cotnoir What a finale to the 2021 Formula One World Championship Season!    Congratulations to Red Bull and Max Verstappen for taking the World Drivers titles and Mercedes for winning the Constructors title!  A lot of controversy has arisen from the finish of the race, and I have to say the fan outrage regarding the finish and the final drivers' standings is pure tommyrot!  Listen, I understand fans of Lewis Hamilton are upset he lost the race and the championship, but the decisions made by the FIA are completely justified! Our Champion, Ladies & Gentleman I have seen so much Fan-Rage on Facebook and Reddit regarding the final restart and the FIA's decisions, and to them I have to say: get over yourself you big babies!  No one cares that you cancelled your Sky Sports Subscription, or about your vows to "never watch Formula One again.   We all know that you're going to be back watching FP1 in Bahrain in 2022,

In Defense of Jennifer Jo Cobb

Image
In Defense of Jennifer Jo Cobb By Brian Cotnoir NASCAR Truck Series driver and team owner Jennifer Jo Cobb, gets a lot of disrespect, and I feel it's greatly undeserved.  Since 2010 Jennifer Jo Cobb has run the majority of NASCAR Truck Series races.  In that time, she has been the most successful female owner in NASCAR History.  She's made 230 career starts in the NASCAR Truck Series; 226 of those starts came as an Owner-Driver. Let's compare that to the stats of NASCAR's most well-known female driver, Danica Patrick.  Danica Patrick has made 191 career starts in NASCAR's Cup Series with a career best finish of 6th place at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2014, which equals Jennifer Jo Cobb's career Best Finish in the Truck Series.  Patrick's Career Average finish was 24th place in the Cup Series while Jennifer Jo Cobb's career average finish in the Truck Series is 25th place.  In 2014, Jennifer Jo Cobb finished a career high 16th in the final drivers' st
